Cyclestreets.net is a brilliant little website for bicyclists. Just enter where you are and where you want to go and it will take you a proper cyclists route, tell you the distance, how quiet or otherwiseit will be and how many calories you will burn completing it.
This is extraordinary. You can actually choose a route to avoid unnecessary hills. Excellent for the part-time cyclist!

Grizedale Mountain Bikes

Grizedale, Ambleside LA22 0QJ, UK – 01229 860335

Friendly, helpful staff who make sure you get sorted out with your bike to ensure it fits you ok. Turned up on the day in good weather and expected it to be busy, however there were still plenty of bones available to hire even though we hadn't booked. Good range of bikes - wish I had got an electric bike as one of our group did and lived whizzing ahead up the steeper hills!

Just returned from a weeks long mtb holiday with my son. The staff are absolutely brilliant. Bought a few bits and bobs from the shop. Helped us out with a couple of free fixes which other wise would have finished us. If you’re going please stop and see them first. They know all the routes and shortcuts, as some of the red is extremely dangerous without warning Can’t wait to go back

Cycle Hire

Coniston Boating Centre

Lake Rd, Coniston LA21 8EW, UK – 015394 41366

Hired a motor boat on a Sunday. Did not book in advance but a boat was available. Hired for 2 hours and this was long enough to sail 3/4 of the lake. So much fun for the kids and adults. The boat itself was very easy to sail literally push down the throttle and go. Well recommended. Even if you do not want to sail there is a cafe / pebble beach area for the kids to enjoy on hot summers day.

Good variation of boats available. We went for a motor boat, but it was very slow. People on kayaks and canoes were quicker! That being said staff were friendly and the prices are reasonable.
